A CI policy lapsed and was reinstated on 1 June. The policy carries a 90-day waiting period. On 1 July the insured is diagnosed with a covered critical illness. Is the claim payable?
The waiting period for a CI plan starts from the date of issue OR the date of any reinstatement of the policy. As it was reinstated on 1 June, the 90-day period restarts; a 1 July diagnosis falls within it and is not payable.
Reinstatement resets the waiting period — the original (much earlier) issue date does not help once a policy has lapsed and been reinstated.
